Associate Merchant
Position Overview
A growing omnichannel retail and eCommerce organization is seeking an analytical and highly motivated Associate Merchant to support category management, vendor partnerships, inventory planning, and merchandising strategy across a diverse product portfolio. Working closely with senior merchandising leadership, this individual will play a key role in driving category performance, executing promotional initiatives, and supporting assortment decisions that enhance the customer experience.
The ideal candidate is curious, data-driven, and eager to develop expertise in merchandising and buying. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to learn the business from the ground up while gaining exposure to vendor negotiations, inventory planning, category analytics, and strategic merchandising initiatives.
Responsibilities
Support category managers and merchandising leadership in the execution of buying and merchandising strategies
Build and maintain productive relationships with vendors and supplier partners
Assist with vendor communications regarding pricing, inventory availability, promotional opportunities, and operational needs
Analyze sales performance, margins, inventory levels, and product trends to support decision-making
Participate in forecasting, inventory planning, and open-to-buy processes
Monitor competitive products, pricing, assortment strategies, and market trends
Support assortment management, product setup, pricing maintenance, and merchandising initiatives
Partner with Marketing, eCommerce, Retail, and Operations teams to execute promotions and product launches
Ensure product content, merchandising information, and customer-facing experiences remain accurate and effective
Prepare reports and insights to support category performance reviews and business planning efforts
Identify opportunities to improve assortment performance and customer engagement
Qualifications
1-3 years of business, retail, merchandising, eCommerce, sales, operations, finance, or related experience preferred
Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel
Ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
Interest in retail, merchandising, product strategy, and consumer trends
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow within merchandising and category management
Previous merchandising or buying experience is a plus but not required
Compensation & Benefits
$80,000-$110,000 annual salary, based on experience
